This recent kitchen remodel in Algonquin was to help add more functionality, but also help update the visual aesthetic. As you can see in the before and after photos, the old version of the kitchen featured avocado green paint, wood cabinets, and tile flooring reminiscent of the late 1970s and early 1980s. Our goal was to update and improve the look of the kitchen, and create a kitchen that is both elegant and timeless. Another goal was to create more usable space and reduce clutter to streamline the kitchen. Below is a list of everything we completed in this extensive kitchen renovation.

• Upgraded cabinets. The basic wood cabinets were replaced with premium cabinets with a medium-dark finish. These cabinets have inset facings, and brushed stainless steel cabinet pulls. The kitchen island also matches these new cabinets.
• New kitchen island. We also replaced the existing kitchen island with a new island which has the microwave in the base. Previously, the microwave was above the range.
• Upgraded range and new kitchen hood. The stainless steel range with six burners is still a big part of the kitchen. Previously, the microwave and small cabinets were above the range. In the new kitchen, we added a maroon red exhaust hood, to add a bit of color to the kitchen.
• Unique kitchen backsplash. One of the distinct features of this renovated kitchen is a unique backsplash in a modified chevron pattern. Most of the tiles are white or off-white, but there are copper-colored tiles intermingled. The sunlight from the window gives these an eye-catching appearance.
• New flooring. To continue creating a sophisticated vibe in this kitchen, we replaced the old square tile with gray faux stone laminate flooring. This color helps create the proper contrast with the walls, backsplash, and cabinets.
• Updated countertops. We used a basic white countertop for the counters and kitchen island.
• New overhead lighting. The old lights above the kitchen island were black metal lights, which we replaced with clear glass light holders suspended with bronze stems. The previous kitchen had a lot of clashing colors; the new kitchen has complementary colors and textures. There are also recessed lights in the ceiling which help illuminate the kitchen and dining area.
• Brand new shelving. As you can see in the project photos, we added extra storage shelving just outside of the kitchen, in the dining room area. This shelving matches the cabinets and island.
• New paint. The old avocado green paint we replaced with a pale off-white/beige paint which better reflects the light from the kitchen windows. This helps brighten the room, and provides the proper complementary colors that makes this new kitchen so beautiful.
