Morton Grove Kitchen Remodeling

This kitchen remodeling project helped open up more kitchen space for this Morton Grove homeowner, while improving the aesthetic of the kitchen dramatically. There was a lot that happened from the beginning of the project to the culmination, so here is a breakdown of everything we did during this kitchen renovation.

• Cabinet replacement. The original kitchen had a heavy emphasis on dark stained wood, dark countertops, and dark deep tones. The new kitchen has all light colors, a contemporary look and feel, and the kitchen is much brighter. The first thing we did was replace the dark wood stained cabinets with white cabinets, and everything else also reflected this change.
• Removing part of wall to open up kitchen. If you look at the before and after photos, you will see that we removed part of the kitchen wall that borders the foyer. This reduced some counter space and cabinet room slightly, but it made the kitchen look much bigger.
• New hood fan for the range. We removed the microwave oven that was above the kitchen range, and added a full stainless steel hood fan and backsplash to vent cooking fumes more efficiently and make the kitchen look better.
• Kitchen backsplash. The backsplash above the range and above all the countertops is a pale white herringbone, which makes this contemporary kitchen look very classy.
• Brand new countertops. Keeping with the idea of brightening the kitchen, we replaced the dark quartzite countertops with clean white porcelain countertops.
• New kitchen island. In the before photos, you can see there is a very small kitchen table, but we replaced that with a larger kitchen island with the same white porcelain countertops in the rest of the kitchen. The microwave that was above the range is now in the kitchen island. This island has a very light pale tan stain, whcih complements the flooring and white countertops and cabinets.
• Flooring replacement. The old kitchen had a medium dark wood stain, in the new kitchen, we added a lighter laminate wood flooring to make the kitchen brighter.
• Improved lighting. In the original kitchen, there was a single three bulb ceiling lighting fixture. This renovated kitchen has two hanging light fixtures with gold finish, and small dome housing.
